Liquid Ambient Digitizes “Mein Schiff Flow” – TUI Cruises’ Second InTUItion Flagship Now Live as a Full 3D Digital Twin
The Second Ship in the InTUItion Class—and Why It’s Different from the Relax
The Mein Schiff Flow is the ninth ship in the Mein Schiff fleet and the sister ship of the Mein Schiff Relax, which Liquid Ambient made available as the world’s first complete 3D tour of an InTUItion-class ship back in March 2025. On paper, both ships are identical in design: 333 meters long, 42.1 meters wide, approximately 160,000 GT, 2,016 cabins for up to 3,984 passengers, built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone—a new construction site that TUI Cruises is using for the first time with this class, after all previous ships were built at Meyer Turku in Finland.
But if you take a closer look, you’ll notice that TUI Cruises has consistently incorporated the lessons learned from a year of operating the Mein Schiff Relax into the Flow. And it is precisely these differences that make the Flow’s 3D digital twin a unique experience—not just a digital copy of its sister ship.
What’s new on the Mein Schiff Flow?
- Fugu: Singapore instead of Japan. Tim Raue’s themed restaurant offers a Japanese-inspired 360-degree dinner show on the Relax. On the Flow, the theme is Singapore—a labor of love for the chef, who has lived there. New dishes, a new story, and a new audiovisual show. For the first time, there’s also a dedicated children’s menu, making the concept much more appealing to families.
- More comfort on the outdoor decks. More shade, more comfortable loungers in the exclusive X-area, and additional sun sails. TUI Cruises has responded here to direct guest feedback.
- Accessibility in the pool. For the first time, wheelchair users can also access the 25-meter pool: a waterproof crane chair with a load capacity of up to 140 kg makes this possible.
- Street Art Bar reimagined. Instead of large-scale pink graffiti, the space is now dominated by calmer shades of gray, many individual colorful images, and yellow perforated walls—creating a distinct atmosphere compared to the Relax.
- Heinemann returns to duty-free. The shopping arcade is once again operated by Heinemann—with a broader selection and a design that’s significantly different from that on board the Relax and the Mein Schiff 7.
- Finni—a new Kids’ Club character. This sea creature accompanies families through game shows, discos, and an interactive treasure hunt.
5% more space per passenger. A subtle yet noticeable sense of spaciousness—the Flow feels even a little more expansive. - A new Kids Club character and redesigned suite details round out the picture of this upgraded sister ship.
Both ships share the same modern dual-fuel LNG propulsion system—during the 2026 summer season, the Relax and the Flow will even run entirely on bio-LNG. In the future, operation using e-LNG is also planned. The centerpiece of both ships remains the spectacular Diamond Atrium, which spans several decks and sets new standards—both visually and functionally—in the Mein-Schiff universe.
High-Pressure Scan: Production Directly at Fincantieri in Monfalcone
The Liquid-Ambient team was physically on-site at the shipyard in Monfalcone during the final production phase. Shipyard productions like this one are more challenging than a scan during normal operations for several reasons—and at the same time, they are the only way to fully capture certain areas at all: no passengers yet, full deck access, but also a construction site environment, noise, vibration, and a tight time window before handover.
01 – Microvibrations: Even in the shipyard, a ship of this size vibrates. Liquid Ambient’s proprietary scanning patterns and algorithms neutralize this interference—a workflow that few other Matterport agencies worldwide have mastered to this extent.
02 – Mirrors, chrome, polished steel: The Flow is just as reflective and shiny as its sister ship. The Matterport Pro3’s LiDAR-based scanners reflect off these surfaces—resulting in ghost images and holes in the model when expertise is lacking. Liquid Ambient’s 3D artists remove these artifacts during post-production at a level unmatched in the industry.
03 – Logistical Window: The handover of a new ship is no leisurely process. The team coordinated the scanning phases with military precision around the delivery schedule.
04 – Outdoor Decks and Sunlight: The distinctive Marcoon roof over the main pool deck—a delicate, elegant lattice roof newly developed for the InTUItion class—poses special challenges in terms of lighting and scanning angles. The Matterport Pro3 with LiDAR meets this requirement; a Pro2 would simply fail on the Flow’s expansive outdoor decks.
How Passengers, Travel Agencies, and TUI Cruises Benefit from the Digital Twin
The 3D digital twin of the Mein Schiff Flow is much more than a marketing asset. It is a fully navigable ship—on desktop, tablet, and smartphone. Before booking, guests can stroll through cabin categories, explore the Agora with its infinity pool and Greek ambiance, visit the Mistral Deck at the very front of Deck 19, or experience the new Singaporean atmosphere at the Fugu restaurant—all before the ship has even called at its first commercial port.
For travel agencies, the result is a sales tool that transforms a consultation into an emotional experience. Customers who have taken a virtual tour of their booked cabin book with greater anticipation and less fear of cancellation.
TUI Cruises benefits from modern marketing across all digital touchpoints: website, social media, travel magazines, and trade shows. The Flow is the ninth ship in the fleet—and the development of a complete digital twin fleet is progressing in parallel with the physical fleet.
40% Capacity Growth: TUI Cruises in the Largest Growth Phase of Its History
With the entry into service of the Mein Schiff Relax (2025) and the Mein Schiff Flow (2026), TUI Cruises’ capacity will grow by approximately 40 percent. Clas Eckholt, Vice President of Commercial at TUI Cruises, speaks of “excellent load factors” and booking figures exceeding last year’s peak levels. The Flow began its maiden voyage on June 20, 2026, with a christening ceremony in Trieste—three ordinary fans were selected as godmothers—and will then sail to the western Mediterranean from Palma de Mallorca.
For Liquid Ambient, this growth means that the TUI fleet is expanding digitally, ship by ship. The remaining “Mein Schiff” vessels are already in the planning stages.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Matterport tours on cruise ships, 3D digital twins for cruise lines, and our partnership with LIQUID AMBIENT:
What is a digital twin of a cruise ship?
A digital twin of a cruise ship is a complete, true-to-scale 3D replica of the entire vessel—from the cabins to the outdoor decks to the crew areas. Created using the Matterport Pro3 scanner and LiDAR technology, it enables a realistic, navigable online tour. Passengers, prospective crew members, and travel agencies can explore the ship virtually—this enhances the customer journey and has been proven to increase booking rates and conversion.
Which cruise ships has LIQUID AMBIENT already digitized?
For example, Liquid Ambient has created complete 3D digital twins of the entire AIDA fleet—including the AIDAnova and AIDAcosma (Helios class), the AIDAprima and AIDAperla (Hyperion class), and several ships of the Sphinx class. For TUI Cruises, the Mein Schiff Relax has been digitized; the Mein Schiff Flow and other ships in the TUI fleet are already in the process of being digitized.
Why is Matterport scanning so difficult on ships?
How long does it take to scan an entire cruise ship?
How much does a Matterport scan of a cruise ship cost?
Can LIQUID AMBIENT also scan hotels and other hospitality properties?
Is a scan possible during a shipyard visit (dry dock)?
